Police Brutality in Baltimore

This disturbing footage shows Officer Salvatore Rivieri, confronting a group of young skateboarders, in particularly a 14-year old boy named Eric Bush who are trespassing. Usually encounters with trespassers results in a simple warning. However, this was not the case with Officer Rivieri. Although the boy didn’t appear to say much, Officer Rivieri appeared extremely angry and agitated even from the start. Officer Rivieri’s temper gets even worse when Eric refers to him as “dude.” The officer then grabs the young boy and his skateboard, puts him in a head lock, and tosses him to the ground. Officer Rivieri then begins to yell at Eric and lecture him. This video is a perfect example of how police brutality can be verbal, emotional and physical. Officers such as Rivieri are dangerous to the police department. The police department should keep a close eye out for warning signs of police brutality in officers such as unprovoked irritability and aggression.

This incident was reported on February 15, 2008. This second footage shows Officer Rivieri again! Apparently there was a young artist from Washington D.C. getting reactions out of people by putting a remote control car under a box and moving it around. Officer Rivieri gets extremely agitated by this moving box and begins kicking it and the remote control car. He then yells at the young artist to leave the premises. As a result of these incidents officer Rivieri is suspended with pay and not conducts work behind a desk.

What's up Stephen. I really enjoyed reading and watching the video clip on officer Rivieri. It just blew my mind when the officer got extremely agitated by this moving box and beginan to kick it. Then He yells at the young artist to leave the premises. Furthermore, on the first video clip when he takes the skateboard away from the teenager, the officer did not have enough probable cause to take it away, and even if he did have enough probable cause he did not do it in a professional matter. The teenagers were not of any kind a threat to the officer for him to used the force he used. I hope internal affairs get this officer for performing unnecessary use of force and misconduct.

Yeah, when I first saw this video I was completley shocked. And what's really scary is that officer Rivieri is a 17 year veteran. So, that means this guy has been harrassing people and shoving his weight around, unchallenged for 17 years and we're just now hearing about it! I'm curious how many complaints officer Rivieri has had that have just been shoved in a folder and put away somewhere.

Im curious to know if officer Rivieri had any previous encounters with the 17 year old skateboarder. Im assuming by the words he used that he did not, but maybe previous encounters with the teenager provoked his anger. Of course, this does not give him any reason to throw the youngster to the ground.

Hey mike, Thanks for your comments. Yeah I was thinking the same thing. You never really know what happened before. Maybe he encountered these kids before and they teased him. I have a feeling this was not the case though because he is acting extremley irritable with the guy on the second video too. And yeah, he should have never threw him on the ground. It's important for police officers to keep their cool and behave rationally and not emotionally.
