Why discuss police brutality?
Police Brutality is a major issue that citizens, especially minorities, are concerned about. The police have a history of the use of excessive force, discrimination, and racial profiling. A search on Google will show 2,210,000 entries and “You Tube” had 2,280 videos on police brutality. According to USA Today, there has been a 25 percent increase in excessive force or other tactics to violate victims' civil rights by law enforcement between the years 2001 to 2007. Police brutality is an issue that is overlooked and under reported. Citizens who encounter police brutality feel left with nowhere to turn. Who keeps the police accountable when the one agency we entrust to enforce the laws begins to take the law in their own hands?

Hi Stephen!!! I enjoyed reading your blog and I agree that police brutality is a major issue that citizens need to be very concerned with. Also, it is not right that police officers feel the need to use excessive force with out a valid reason.
HOW TRUE!!...it is so sad to see those who take an oath to protect each and every citizen along with their dignity when they take up their job, using such wrong force against minorities. The Rodney King video still gets me angry. It arouses anger for the officers doing the beating, along with the other officers who also stood there watching and did not see anything wrong in it. The concept of police brutality really needs to be given more thought to by everyone.
Thanks for the responses! I know police have to deal with many dangerous aspects in their work as well as put to a higher standard of behaving. I'm not trying to sound unsympathetic but it all comes with the job. How is society suppose to respect the police enforcing the laws if there is hypocrisy?
